One of our all-time favourite pubs is the Cross Guns in the tranquil little village of Avoncliff. It’s as easy to visit by canal boat via the Dundas Aqueduct as it is by car, or you could cycle from the cottages or city centre apartments.
The stunning 16th century Inn is nestled on the canal towpath by Avoncliff Station, situated between Bath and the lovely town of Bradford-on-Avon. It has recently been refurbished and the best way to while away your hours there is in their gorgeous gardens enjoying some al fresco dining.
They have a range of real ales, craft beers and wines as well as serving food all day, which is mainly classic pub grub like sausages and mash, steaks, pies and fish and chips. It’s a very picturesque spot with panoramic views of the river Avon. The owners, who also run the Inn at Freshford, believe it is the best escape from the city as an idyllic rural hideout.
The pub is family friendly amd really worth a visit. You can book by calling their team on 01225862335.
