The family-run establishment is truly one-of-a-kind with an eclectic mix of artefacts and memorabilia from their local village present throughout the interior. The dishes on offer are a real combination of traditional and contemporary cooking, but always remain authentic.
On opening, many advised that their teahouse-style home cooking, may be a required a taste, never shared beyond Nepal before, at least not in the UK. Thankfully, the proud owners ignored this advice and with recognition from critics and inclusion in the Good Food Guide, they have gone on to thrive in their unique space on the city’s culinary map. Inside guests are invited you sit and eat from a cushioned area on the floor, following tradition from Nepalese culture. However, conventional tables are also available along with adjoining courtyard garden.
The family aim to source local ingredients as much as possible, despite the international pallet and are keen to support independent traders; the key to Nepalese food is freshness, so it makes sense to buy local. Occasionally, due to the unique origins of their menu, sometimes they import essential ingredients from Nepal, which involves travelling to personally collect their haul from dependable tea gardens coffee plantations.
Yak Yeti Yak does things differently and prides its great reputation on such. You can find the restaurant on Pierrepont Street, tucked in below a row of 18th century townhouses. You can tuck into a dish of fragrant cooking any day of the week and embrace the authentic Nepalese atmosphere.
